Everybody dance like there's ass in your pants

So I got the MP3 player. It seems cool, except I am still charging it and have not actually used it.

The speakers, I'm kind of disappointed in. The bass is fine, but unless I keep them at the absolute lowest volume possible, the treble distorts like CRAZY. I'm thinking this is somehow my fault? Does anyone have any ideas?

Question: Is it possible you are putting too much signal into the input? You are driving the speaker from the computer, I assume. Have you set the properties of the sound card so that it knows it is driving a set of powered speakers?

Or are you driving the speakers from your CD or MP3 player? If that is the case, it is possible that there is a fault in one of the tweeters or the amplifier itself. My petite Creative speakers do not obviously distort, even at high volumes -- like movies with loud explosions and such. Either you're overloading the inputs, or there is something wrong with the speakers themselves. Do both speakers distort the treble?

both speakers distort, they actually work slightly better with my mp3 player than my computer, but they still distort. I'm thinking of asking their tech support tomorrow.
